The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song is a two-part PBS documentary directed and narrated by historian and literary scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. It explores 400 years of the Black church in America, the changing nature of worship spaces, and the men and women who have shepherded and continue to shepherd Black communities from the pulpit, the choir loft and church pews. Produced by WETA, the public broadcasting station in Washington D.C., with major funding from Lilly Endowment, the documentary premieres nationwide on PBS February 16 and 17 and will remain available for free on demand streaming for four weeks.
