In the education division, we strive to help enhance and increase educational attainment and meaningful economic opportunities for the people of Indiana and build the state’s intellectual capital. Additionally, we support on an invitational basis efforts to strengthen higher education access and success for African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans across the United States. We also support youth programs in Indiana that help all young people reach their full potential.

In addition to our regular grantmaking, since March 2020, the Endowment has made special grants to support education and youth-serving organizations that are addressing compelling  COVID-19 pandemic-related needs in their communities.LEARN MORE

In October, Lilly Endowment launched Advancing Science of Reading in Indiana (ASRI), an initiative, that aims to improve significantly the reading abilities of Indiana students.
Through ASRI, the Endowment has allocated up to $25 million for planning and implementation grants available to Indiana colleges and universities that wish to participate. The initiative will complement a statewide effort recently undertaken by the Indiana Department of Education to improve reading achievement in K-12 schools by helping current teachers implement SoR-aligned methods in their classrooms.
